life is short

i was just reading the blog of a distant sister this evening. i never knew her personally, but we share several mutual friends. on her blog, she posted about a family member being diagnosed with leukemia at the young age of 11 last april, followed by several subsequent posts asking for prayer, and a final post in august.

as i read through each post, the tears came. how could such a beautiful young girl be taken from this earth so suddenly? what did she do to merit such pain for four months, being hospitalized in the ICU and undergoing so many treatments and surgeries? it just did not seem fair. why, God? i can't even imagine the pain her parents and family members went through. the 11 years of devoted parenting and several late nights, the sacrifices her parents must have made to make sure she got access to the best treatment... i just sat in my room, devastated.

this little girl had so much left to see. not even knowing her personally, as i read each post, i wanted her to overcome the battle with cancer. i wanted her to be able to experience the awkwardness of middle school, the drama of high school, the independence and freedom of college, the excitement of graduating, and the beauty of God's love on her wedding day. but i couldn't help but think that God loved her so dearly, that He wanted to take her to see the greater beauty of heaven that much earlier. she deserved it, and that's how much He loved his daughter. He loved her more than the love she knew from her parents. it must be so hard as parents to believe that God would do such a thing... and take their beloved daughter so suddenly. i would be devastated. dear mina and family, i'm praying for you guys this week.

oh, how He loves...

"And we know that in all things God works for the GOOD of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
