one of my good friends has this really awesome twitter where she documents everything absolutely laugh-out-loud worthy in 140 characters or less. it's called "my fobby dad" because it is exactly that and no less-- your typical immigrant asian father who moved here to get his PhD and realize the american dream. and while absolutely brilliant enough to graduate at the top of the class in asia in order to come to the states for an accomplished graduate degree-- even after having lived in the states for 30 years, is still completely oblivious to english grammar and the american culture.
if you're ever needing a quick pick-me-up on a rainy day like this, it's the perfect twitter to open up and get your daily dose of chuckles in. (just make sure your boss doesn't hear you over the cubicle wall!) check it out! i LOVE it.
my dad is just that as well. (though probably pales in comparison to her dad's hilarity. i think he's unbeatable.) but occasionally, he says some ridiculous things. instead of getting embarrassed about it like i would have back in grade school, it now makes me laugh.
just like every other holiday, of course dad always has to find some opportunity to ask about the men in my life. why would thanksgiving break be any different? and of course, it is always slightly awkwardly timed, because he sees the open window of opportunity to inquire, and it's GO! (even after all these holidays, i still get caught off guard every time.) this thanksgiving, it happened over the dinner table. (whoever said food always opens the heart was correct. this is the most frequent location where the topic comes up.)
dad: who are those guys? (pointing to two guys i'm standing next to in a picture on facebook.)
me: daaadd, they're just some guys in my church. no interest there, i promise.
dad: oh. (pauses to think for a brief moment.) why they not any good?
me: they're young. they call me mom sometimes. so you see, the relationship is not like that.
dad: why they call you mom? they should not call you mom. oh, they better call you hot momma.
......DAAAADDDD!!! >.<
haha, gotta love him. as the real fobbydad would say, "are there no such chemicals?" no, there are no such chemicals.
