new friend

i recently met a "new friend" online because we happened to be applying to the same health conference in SoCal. long story short, through a string of e-mails that were mistakenly sent to "reply all" to all the applicants, she disclosed that was no longer attending the cali program because she was headed to michigan for the summer. (go blue!) of course, the blue blood that runs in my veins couldn't resist and HAD to be a creeper and respond to her e-mail, asking the typical creeper string of questions: "where in Michigan?" "why in Michigan?" "when in Michigan?" "let's be friends?" etc.

after a short exchange of e-mails within the span of 30 minutes, i found out that she is coming in a week, staying for the summer, living in Ann Arbor. freaking psych!!!!! i'm so pumped to meet her. new friends FTW!

i LOVE randomly meeting new friends like this.. esp. ones with similar interests! this is why i also love my occupation / field. people in it are naturally super awesome... and we get along. i'm not saying this is to be guaranteed, but i've got good feelings about this one.

of course i couldn't help but think more: what makes me always so open and excited to meet strangers that i have absolutely no context with? is it because i hold absolutely no prior misconceptions against them, so i'm not skeptical / wary of becoming friends with them? and what if i approached everyone, prior context or not, with no judgement? could the friend potential be just as great? hmm... i'm open to trying this out.

...yes baby, i often feel the same way you do on the inside .
