so earlier i wrote about commitments and how hard they are to make. but then, recently i encountered the other side of commitments: making the decision of breaking them.
and i wonder: is this how serious commitments are supposed to be? the logic behind it: taking the initial process of understanding the commitment, making sure it's in check with your heart and the conviction is there, so once it's made, it's even harder to end that commitment? i'd like to think so, but then what about all the noncommittal encounters where people make commitments, but then break them so easily? does that mean we're approaching the decision-making process incorrectly in these situations?
i guess i'm finding out that breaking commitments can be just as hard as making them. there's so much on the line to preserve: relationships, time (is all the time you spent on this commitment wasted? ...probably not, but then what does it mean now), standards, expectations, memories... the list goes on.
but for all things, there is a season. when it's time to close out on a chapter, you just gotta do it... (reminiscing is fine, but no lingering!) you gotta move ahead, independent of your circumstances... even when things are going well. i've been liking my job a lot more these days, but right when this happened, its just about getting to that time to put in my two weeks... but in a way, i'm glad i'm ending this on a sweet note and on good terms, rather than leaving with a sour taste in my mouth. its gonna be slightly painful when i do have to do it, and i'm going to feel terrible saying it. but, you know, there are many more good times ahead to come, and i'm really looking forward to hopping right onto the new ride :)
