on busyness

subsequent to my previous post, i'd like to follow it up by sharing with you this article, "The Busy Trap," from the New York Times.

it's another article that's gained much attention from the public, and since i talked about how much i love to stay busy, this is the perfect follow-up to that post. let me tell you a secret: using the word "busy" is actually a peeve of mine.

the article has a point. the word "busy" has become a way to claim self-worth: "It's almost always people whose lamented busyness is purely self-imposed: work and obligations they've taken on voluntarily, classes and activities they've 'encouraged' their kids to participate in. They're busy because of their own ambition or drive or anxiety, because they're addicted to busyness and dread what they might have to face in its absence."

everyone is busy. but what if i told you that we're never "too busy" for something that we truly care about?

we always somehow make time.
"too busy" is really just another way to say "i don't care enough".

we're really not that busy.
